Derby Wharf Lighthouse — Salem, Massachusetts

My family ended up at Salem Maritime National Historic Site.

This lighthouse was built in 1871 to mark the main channel into Salem. It has been restored and still lights the harbor at night. It sits on the end of a long wharf that extends out into the harbor.  It can just be seen at the end of the wharf visible between the two houses in the bottom photo.

Also on the site was the Custom House where Nathaniel Hawthorne worked for three years as Custom Surveyor.
