Bird #27 — Eastern Kingbird

tyrannus (monarch, ruler) tyrannus (ditto)

Barrington, Illinois – Crabtree Nature Center

I was starting to get serious about birding by this time.  Mom told us about Crabtree, and Sally and I decided to check it out.  On this, my first visit, I saw five lifers.  I might have done better, but we spent most of the three hours of our visit sitting on secluded benches making out.

We were standing on the observation platform overlooking a large field near the apple orchard.  The Eastern Kingbird flew toward us followed closely by a Barn Swallow.  The kingbird landed in an apple tree in the orchard.
