The only Dog n Suds in the state of Wisconsin is in Tomahawk — less than an hour’s drive from where my parents lived for years. And I’d never been there!
We rectified that situation on Wednesday at lunch. Jeff and Cindy parked next to us and during the half hour we were there, we exchanged children and jokes and food and had a great time.
While we waited for our food, Jeff and Cindy suddenly exclaimed that Jacob was missing. Their daughters could tell that Mom and Dad weren’t in panic mode so they handled it like a game of Hide n Seek and found their brother hiding in the trunk of their car.
I ordered a corn dog, fries and a root beer and sampled my daughter’s onion rings. The quality of food at Dog n Suds is better at some locations than at others. This was one of the best.
When I first started my quest to visit all the remaining Dog n Suds drive-ins, there were 16 still in operation. Two of them went out of business before I could visit. I have visited 12 of the remaining 14. I’ve also visited one of the three new ones that have opened up, so I have four to go.
