Review - Batman Returns

Gotham City has three villains this time. Max Shreck is a business man who want to build a (supposed) power plant that will really steal power from the city. When he discovers his lonely secretary, Selina Kyle looking at his plans, he pushes her out the window. She goes mad and becomes Catwoman, determined to get back at men, especially Batman and Max. Meanwhile, the disfigured Penguin comes out of the sewer and teams up with Max who plots to have Penguin made mayor. In a confused sequence, Penguin frames Batman for murder, Bruce Wayne and Salina fall in love, Batman exposes Penguin as the crime boss he really is and Penguin determines to steal all the first-born sons in the city. When Batman stops that scheme, Penguin sets loose his own penguins with rockets to destroy the city. Batman foils him again and Penguin falls to his death into his underground lair. Catwoman shows up and, despite Batman’s pleadings, kills Max, then disappears into the night.

When I saw it in the theater when it first came out, I thought it was too confused and had too many villains. I still think so. I’ve also decided I don’t like Tim Burton. His movies all have weird special effects but no plot or substance.

Review - Batman Returns

This was a mess of a movie, with too many characters and too much chaos.
