Review - Top Gun

Maverick is a Navy pilot known for his recklessness. But he’s also good. He goes up against a intruding Russian Mig and scares it off, so he and his partner Goose sent to the Top Gun school where pilots are taught dogfighting. On the first night in a bar, he makes a move on a woman and she rejects him. The next day he discovers she’s Charlotte, a civilian instructor at the school. They soon begin an affair. The prize for the top pilot comes down to Maverick or Iceman. On the final training exercise, Maverick flies through Iceman’s wash and loses control of his plane. He and Goose eject, but Goose is killed. Maverick thinks about quitting, but decides to stay with the program. He and iceman are sent to the Indian Ocean where the Russians are threatening a rescue mission. Six Migs attack and shoot down one U.S. plane. Iceman is alone with all six enemy planes when Maverick shows up. He’s still gunshy from the accident that killed Goose, but he pulls through and shoots down four of the Migs. He decides to be an instructor at the school.

Basically a recruiting film for the Navy. The plot is schmaltzy and the characters are stereotypes. It was OK fun to watch, but I really don’t think Kelly McGillis was at all attractive and Tom Cruise comes across like a twit.
