Yellow-rumped Warbler

I’ve always thought this was a rather poor name for a stunning bird. Yellow-rumps (affectionately called butter-butts by some birders) don’t spend the summer or winter in Illinois, but they are one of the most common birds during spring and fall migration. On May 1, I spotted several chasing flies through the branches of a fallen tree over a small creek.
