Review - Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The
Three drifters in the Southwest during the Civil War hear about $200,000 in gold hidden in a cemetery by a man named Bill Carson. Tuco knows the cemetery, Joe knows the name on the grave and Sentenza knows about Bill Carson. They work together and double-cross each other and beat each other up back and forth while dodging the two armies. They finally arrive at the cemetery. Joe kills Sentenza, splits the money with Tuco but leaves him hanging while standing on a tombstone. As Tuco is about to die, Joe shoots the rope and rides off.
Obviously, there’s more to the plot, but the plot doesn’t really matter. The whole movie is about mood and setting, with several shots that take forever while we get repeated close-ups of the actors’ faces and listen to music. There are parts that are exciting and several parts during which I actually fell asleep and didn’t miss anything.
