Description:Tom Winter's (Cary Grant) wife (from whom he was separated) dies. Her family plans on taking in the kids, but Tom decides he wants to be a full-time father. He takes the kids to D.C., where he works and bores them silly. The youngest son wanders off and meets Cinzia (Sophia Loren), daughter of a famous concert conductor who wants some freedom. Cinzia returns the child to Tom, and he asks her to be the family maid—even though she knows nothing about cleaning or cooking. It takes Tom and his kids a while to bond, but Cinzia helps. Tom's sister-in-law is vying for his affections, and a local handyman is after Cinzia, but eventually Tom and Cinzia admit they've fallen in love and get married. After some hesitation, the kids decide they're all right with it too.

Review - Houseboat

Mildly amusing. The kids are mostly annoying. Grant was 30 years older than Loren, and she wore makeup that was way, way too dark, so that was weird. Supposedly, Loren had just turned down Grant in real life and he was hurt, so some of the tension in the movie was probably real.
