Review - Operation Petticoat
Grant and Curtis were both funny in their roles, and the plot, while pretty sparse, was enjoyable.

| Description: | Captain Matt Sherman (Cary Grant) has his submarine, USS Sealion, sunk in the Philippines. He and his crew raise it, make what repairs they can, and head for a port where better repairs can be made. Lt. Nick Holden (Tony Curtis) is assigned to the crew even though he's only had cushy jobs in the Navy and knows nothing about submarines. But he's an expert scrounger and manages to "steal" the parts needed for the repairs. The sub takes off, and when it stops near an island to hide from Japanese patrols, Holden finds stranded five U.S. nurses who come aboard. He beings a fling with Barbara (Dina Merrill). Another nurse, Dolores (Joan O'Brien) is clumsy and always getting in the way. Among other things, she accidentally hits a button which causes the sub to fire a torpedo on shore to hit a Japanese truck instead of sinking a freighter. Unable to find enough paint of one color, Nick grabs what he can — the result is a pink submarine. Not recognizing the sub, a U.S. destroyer attempts to sink it until Sherman fires the women's undergarments out the torpedo tube. The sub makes it back to port. The scene shifts to after the war when Holden is the captain charged with taking the Sealion out to sea and sinking her. He is now married to Barbara, and Sherman is married to Dolores. |
