| Description: | Robin Hood and Little John are in France with King Richard. When Richard is killed by an arrow, they return to England. As they enter Sherwood Forest, they meet Will and Tuck and decide to band up again. Robin wants to see Marian. She has become an abbess after he took of on the crusades 20 years before. She’s about to be arrested by the Sheriff of Nottingham because the new king, John, has ordered all the Catholic leadership out of England. Robin kidnaps her back to Sherwood to keep her out of jail. To lure Robin, the Sheriff takes the nuns from the abbey. Robin and John disguise themselves as merchants and follow. They rescue the nuns but are in danger of being overwhelmed when Marian, Will and Tuck show up and help them escape. It becomes obvious that Robin’s age will no longer allow him to live the adventurous life, but he’s unwilling to see. Marian tries to talk him out of it. Sir Ranulf and the Sheriff go to Sherwood to capture Robin and his reforming band. The Sheriff knows Robin can’t resist a challenge, so he camps his army outside the forest and waits. Marian tries to stop Robin, then threatens to leave him, but he goes out anyway and challenges the Sheriff to hand-to-hand combat, winner take all. They fight, and Robin kills the Sheriff, but is injured in the process. Ranulf betrays the Sheriff’s word and attacks and wipes out Robin’s men. Marian and John take Robin to the abbey. Marian poisons Robin, then takes the poison herself. As he’s dying, Robin takes an arrow from John and shoots it out the window, telling John to bury Robin and Marian together where it lands. • Audrey Hepburn's first film in nine years after she had taken a break to raise her family. Well acted, with good characters, but I didn’t like the story. Hepburn, while looking older, was still charming, and Connery, as always was good, but the ending was a real downer. |
