Description:Korean War veteran Walt Kowalski (Clint Eastwood) is a grumpy old widower who doesn't get along with his family and can't stand the fact that a family of Hmongs have moved in next door. When he catches their son, Thao, trying to steal his vintage Gran Torino, he becomes involved with the family. He soon makes friends with Thao's sister, Sue, and then begins teaching Thao how to fix things. A local gang, upset that Walt has stopped Thao from joining, beats up Thao and rapes Sue. Walt, who is dying, confronts the gang alone. He pretends he's going for a gun and allows himself to be shot in front of witnesses so the gang members are thrown in prison and Thao and Sue can find peace.

Review - Gran Torino

This would be a heartwarming story about an old man who had given up on life finding redemption by befriending his neighbors and about two kids who learn about life from an old man. But Walt thinks being a man means drinking, smoking and swearing at every opportunity, and the Catholic priest who gets involved in Walt's life offers no hope.
