Review - Trouble Along the Way
Pretty good. John Wayne was interesting in an uncharacteristic role. The movie, and the football, was dated, but I was entertained.

| Description: | St. Anthony's is a small Catholic college in NYC that is deeply in debt. The head of the college hires Steve Williams (John Wayne) to coach the football team and bring financial success to the school. Steve brings along his 11-year-old daughter, Carol. A child protection officer, Alice (Donna Reed) is investigating Steve's parenting. His ex-wife wants the girl back just to annoy Steve. Steve builds a successful football team, but does it with shady methods. The head of the college finds out and shuts down the team, but realizes that Steve has done just what he was asked and keeps him on as coach. Alice falls in love with Steve and at the custody hearing, testifies in his favor. The movie ends with the case undecided but with the assumption that Steve and Alice will get married and get custody of Carol. |
