Review - Donovan's Reef
There was a good heart to this movie, and some likeable characters, but it was all noisy and silly and so, in the end, disappointing.

Description: | During WWII, three American soldiers were marooned on a French Polynesian island. After the war, they decided to make the island their home. William Dedham (Jack Warden) is a doctor who married the island princess and had two children. Gilhooley (Lee Marvin) is a bartender (who ends up marrying a character played by Dorothy Lamour). And Donovan (John Wayne) owns the bar and the ships that service the island. Now Dedham's daughter Amelia (Elizabeth Allen) is coming to meet the father's she's never seen. Everyone is worried what she'll think about having two half-sisters and a half-brother who are half Polynesian, so they pretend the children are Donovan's. When Amelia finally figures it out, she doesn't mind at all, and she decides to stay on the island and marry Donovan. |
