Notes:An 11-year old girl, with two braids of decidedly red hair, a thin white face, much freckled, and eager eyes shining in anticipation, waited at the railroad station. After years in an orphan asylum, she was finally to have a home of her own. Thus Anne Shirley, the little girl with the big imagination, went to Green Gables, only to find that a dreadful mistake has been made!

COMMENTS — Lucy Maud Montgomery achieved international fame in her lifetime, putting Prince Edward Island and Canada on the world literary map. A prolific writer, she published some 500 short stories and poems and twenty novels (eight about Anne). Nineteen of the novels were set on Prince Edward Island, even though she lived in Ontario for the last thirty-one years of her life.

Review - Anne of Green Gables

I liked Anne in spite of myself, and the scenes of country life were cozy. The ending, when we finally got beyond the anecdotes and began advancing Anne's life, was the best part. Still, I've no desire to read about her further adventures.
