They all set off wandering, for various reasons and end up meeting, not only each other but a troop of a stage show called The Good Companions. The lot of them travel together for most of a year, having adventures and living life, until circumstances—marriage, success, retirement—send them in separate directions.

Review - Good Companions, The

A great first third, a somewhat draggy middle, and a happy ending. A lot of the writing was in various dialects, which slowed things down, but overall it was a pleasant, comfortable story about likeable people.
