| Notes: | A quartet of novels in a single volume: The Sword in the Stone; The Queen of Air and Darkness; The Ill-Made Knight; and The Candle in the Wind. The series is a retelling of the Arthurian legend, from Arthur’s birth to the end of his reign. COMMENTS — The Once and Future King is based largely on Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur and is, in turn, the source of the play and movie, Camelot. After White’s death, a conclusion to the novel was found among his papers; it was published in 1977 as The Book of Merlyn. |
