I realize I'm swimming upriver against the current of popular opinion, but I think The Lord of the Rings trilogy is 300 pages of good story crammed into 1,200 pages. The movies affect me the same way. For the first hour, I want to go home and reread the books. For the rest of the movie, I remember why I didn't care for the books. They go on and on and on with no progress or resolution.
