Pages:17
Year of Publication:1938
Notes:Orson Welles wrote and produced this adaptation of H.G. Wells book for a Halloween special for Mercury Theatre on the Air for CBS. He loosely followed the plot of the book, but set the scene in New Jersey and New York. Many people didn’t hear, or understand, the introduction during which it was announced that this was a drama presentation. Hearing the broadcast, done as a live news report, they panicked and called the station, the police department and other sources to find out what they should do.

COMMENTS — If you can find a tape of the broadcast, listen instead of read. But also look, on the internet or elsewhere, for newspaper accounts of the event printed the next day.
