Notes:Toad is just about the wildest creature who ever lived, which means he is always in trouble. He tells his friends “I want to show you the world!” And whether they like it or not, Toad whisks them off into new adventures, and sometimes into danger. Mole, Water Rat and Badger love their friend, but when he becomes involved in crime it’s a different matter.

COMMENTS — This book was begun as a series of bedtime stories for Grahame’s son.

Reviews for The Wind in the Willows

Review - Wind in the Willows, The

The plot was a bit erratic, with several events occurring that didn't relate to anything else in the book, but that was a minor distraction. My only major criticism is the involvement of humans. I think the jailers, gypsy and barge lady should have been some kind of animals. This would have eliminated several inconsistencies. Overall a good adventure story with great characters and English settings greatly aided by the drawings of Michael Hague. The pictures of the insides of the four friends' homes are particularly inviting.
