Reviews for Black Beauty
Review - Black Beauty
I loved it as a kid because it gave me my first taste of Victorian England, a taste later developed by Dickens, Doyle, etc.

| Notes: | Black Beauty, a handsome horse, narrates the story himself. Well-born, well-bred and initially owned by kind masters, he is sold to successively crueler owners and eventually collapses from overwork and ill treatment. COMMENTS — Black Beauty was Anna Sewell’s only novel and the first major animal story in children’s literature. She wrote it “to induce kindness, sympathy and an understanding treatment of horses.” |
