Notes:Black Boy describes vividly Wright’s often harsh, hardscrabble boyhood and youth in rural Mississippi and in Memphis, Tennessee. The book tells the story of Wright’s coming of age and development as a writer whose race was but one of many that formed him as an artist.

COMMENTS — Wright also wrote short stories and novels including Uncle Tom’s Children and Native Son, which protest white treatment of Blacks.
