Notes:Within the pages of this one volume is a fascinating and informative discussion of many of the most important works every produced — sixteen books which contain such vital, trail-blazing ideas that they have had a powerful impact upon humanity throughout the ages. Included are: The Prince; Common Sense; Wealth of Nations; Essay on the Principle of Population; Civil Disobedience; Uncle Tom’s Cabin; Das Kapital; The Influence of Sea Power Upon History; The Geographical Pivot of History; Mein Kampf; De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium; De Mortu Cordis; Principia Mathematica; Origin of Species; The Interpretation of Dreams; Relativity, The Special and General Theories.

COMMENTS — We’re kinda cheating on this one. Most of the famous books listed in this book are not on the Carp 500. They’re not the type of books one reads for enjoyment. But they are famous. Downs does a great job of explaining what they’re about and what impact they’ve had. It’s a great way to become informed without boring yourself unduly.

Review - Books That Changed the World

Somewhat dated, but interesting and readable descriptions of 16 important books. Many of the works covered are books that I've heard a great deal about and want to know about, but are too involved or dull to actually read.
