Reviews for The Bounty
Review - Bounty, The
This is the latest in a long series of books about the famous mutiny, and I've read at least 15 of them. If you've read the trilogy by Nordhoff and Hall (on the Carp 500), you know the basic story, but those books are embellished greatly and are based on various "legends" that have sprung up over the years. Alexander debunks the legends and shows how they came about. Her book is a bit strange in that it begins with the voyage of the Pandora, the ship that was sent to capture the mutineers. The actual voyage of the Bounty, the stay on Tahiti and the mutiny are covered very quickly. The major part of the book covers the lives of those members of the crew who were brought back for trial. For myself, since I have read so much on the events, this was interesting because it's a part of the story usually covered sparingly. But if you're looking for a more popular-style account of the history, you might find this book heavy slogging.
