Reviews for The Colour of Magic
Review - Colour of Magic, The
The first Discworld novel. It’s hard to explain, and I’m not really going to try very hard. Rincewind is a failed wizard who is hired as a guide by Discworld’s first tourist, Twoflower, a short round man who always sees everything in a positive light. This isn’t Rincewind’s point of view, and the constant danger he finds himself in is disconcerting. So is Twoflower’s luggage, a large trunk with dozens of feet and a mind of its own who follows Twoflower wherever he goes and eats anyone who threatens him. After a series of dangerous adventures, the two find themselves on the edge of the Disc, about to fall off into space. They are rescued/captured by a sea troll and taken to Krull. They manage to escape, and Twoflower climbs aboard a rocket vessel that is pushed over the edge of the disk. Rincewind and the luggage follow as the book ends.
I finished this book in a Super 8 Motel in Grandview, Missouri while waiting for my daughter to get ready on the morning I dropped her off at college. I’m trying to write this review several days later and don’t remember much about the book except that I found it amusing and interesting.
