Notes:In 1740, Commodore Anson set out with six ships and 1,900 men to capture Spanish prizes in the Pacific. He returned in 1744 with one ship and 500 men — and the treasure from many ships including the Manilla Galleon (his main goal). Two of his ships turned back at Cape Horn, one was wrecked there (its crew split up and wandered all over South America), and two were scuttled in the Pacific due to damage and reduced crews.
