Review - In the Heat of the Night
This was another from the list of 100 best mysteries ever. I imagine this book was quite revolutionary in 1965 with its claim that a Black could be more intelligent than southern Whites. From that perspective, it had a bit of historical interest. But Tubbs’ near-infallibility as a detective and the details of the crime itself didn’t ring particularly true. Ball’s writing style was rather “Dick and Jane.” I don’t think it would generate much interest if it were written today.
