Notes:Not literature by any standard. It's 1957. Keven Pulaski, a vacationing L.A. undercover cop, is heading home from Chicago on Route 66. At an Illinios truckstop, he meets Lisette Kingman, a beautiful young woman who needs a ride to St. Louis. It turns out she's the daughter of a gangster murdered 10 years before. Her father ran off with his associates' money and was killed, but managed to hide the money somewhere along Route 66. The clue to the money is hidden in the Route 66 guidebook Lisette carries. Unfortunately, several gangsters are looking for the girl and the money and chase Pulaski all the way across the country. There are several chase scenes and violent episodes in which the bad guys are offed one by one. There are also some steamy scenes as Keven and Lisette get to know one another. They manage to surved and even keep a bit of the money away from the cops.

Review - West on 66

The plot was OK. It kept me reading. The descriptions of the chase scenes were exciting. The Route 66 connection was a bit forced. Keven looked at things from a historical perspective unlikely in a contemporary of the road's heyday. There were mentions of period cars, businesses and music, but I never felt like I was in 1957.
