Notes:Gypsy Vianne Rocher and her young daughter Anouk move into a small French town and open a chocolate shop. They immediately get on the wrong side of Monsieur Reynaud, the local priest, for staying open on Sunday. The tension increases when Vianne's philosophy that happiness is the ultimate goal begins influencing the locals. A band of gypsies dock their boats near town and cause further stir. In the end, Reynaud flees after indulging his desires for chocolate, the lives of several townspeople and greatly altered and Vianne believes she has finally found a home.

Review - Chocolat

There were only two options here — the rigid legalism of the church of the hedonistic indulgence of pursuing happiness. There was no moderation. Scripture was repeatedly placed on the same level as fables and the villains in the piece were all those most dedicated to religion. In the end, it was impossible to root for any of these characters.
