Notes:Comments and opinions on various subjects, from Truth and Love to Gardens and Travel. Bacon wrote 38 essays, and although his topics were sometimes weighty, his prose style was witty and rich. Many of his aphorisms — such as “Cure the disease and kill the patient” — are still in use today. Bacon was a writer, philosopher, barrister, Member of Parliament and lord chancellor under Queen Elizabeth I and James I. Late in life he was created Viscount St. Albans.
