Review - A Bullet for Cinderella

Why I read the book: I’m working my way through all of his — even though it’s been a long time since I’ve rated one higher than 6.

What the book was about: Tal Howard was a P.O.W. in Korea with Timmy Warden. Timmy said he’d embezzled $60,000 from his brother George and hidden it. Just before he died, Timmy asked Tal to get the money from where he’s hidden it and return it. But he didn’t say where it was, just that Cindy would know.

Tal goes to Warden’s hometown and finds that George is near bankruptcy. In his employ is one Fitzmartin, who was also in the P.O.W. camp and soon reveals to Tal that he’s looking for the money — and Tal better not get in his way. Tal interviews Timmy’s acquaintances, looking for Cindy. He meets an old girlfriend, Ruth, and they immediately fall in love, but then Ruth turns cold when she finds out Tal is looking for the money for himself.

Cindy turns out to be a high-class hooker in a nearby city that Timmy was friends with when they were younger. Cindy agrees to split the money with Tal, but Fitzmartin follows them and kills Cindy. Tal kills Fitzmartin, gives the money back and gets together with Ruth. There’s more to the story and a bunch more people die in gruesome ways, but that’s the basis.
