Notes:Abel Jones, Union major and detective, travels to New Orleans during the occupation to find out what happened to the daughter of a wealthy northerner. He uncovers a plot to capture freed Blacks and sell them into slavery in the Spanish islands. The girl was killed for her money, which she intended to use to ship Blacks back to Africa. The plot was carried out by a Union officer and a southern lady ship owner.

Review - Rebels of Babylon

The books are well-written, but Jones' preaching can get tiring, and all the bits about voodoo were boring. He solves the mystery more with bluster and luck than with detective work, and he plays the fool right up until the point where he's brilliant.
