Notes:Ailnoth, a new priest of the town church comes to Shrewsbury, bringing a housekeepter, Diota, and her nephew, Ninian. The young man works with Cadfael in the garden while Ailnoth sets about alienating everyone with his strictness. When he is found dead in the mill pond, Cadfael sets about solving the mystery. It turns out that Ninian is a solider for Empress Maud hiding out from King Stephen's forces. Ailnoth finds this out and sets forth to accost him. Diota runs to save her nephew, but is stunned when Ailnoth hits her with his staff. He then slips and hits his head falling into the pond. There is no murderer. Ninian, who committed no crime, is allowed to go on his way to the Empress, taking with him a young noblewoman of the town.

Review - Raven in the Foregate, The

The story was a bit more complicated than I've retold it. Peters seemed to be filling this one with fluff to reach her page number. The characters were good, but the plot was overly complicated and pretty unlikely.
