Notes:The abbey in Ramsey has been ransacked. The prior travels to Shrewsbury to ask for aid in restoring it. He brings along a young brother named Tutilo, a gifted singer. Tutilo decides to bring more back to his abbey than the raised funds and steals the bones of Saint Winifred. Thieves strike the caravan, but the local Earl recovers the bones and brings them back to Shrewsbury. A worker who helped load the cart that carried the stolen bones is called to testify against Tutilo but is murdered on the way. Tutilo is suspected, but Cadfael thinks otherwise, especially after a young woman singer named Daalny confesses to him that she and Tutilo spent the night in question in a barn, talking innocently. Cadfael suspects a servant of the murder and, while the proof is found, Tutilo and Daalny sneak off together.

Review - Holy Thief, The

The plot was more complicated by far than what I've written, with many more characters and twists. Too many, in fact, to be even close to plausible, but it kept my interest nonetheless.
