Notes:Samuel Fowler returns to the past, this time to 1875. He tracks down his love (from the earlier book — If I Never Get Back) in an Irish community in Nebraska. Cait is cold at first because of the way Sam left her six years previously. The town has just lost its money, stolen by two con men. Sam tracks them to Saratoga Springs and manages to steal it back. They follow and kidnap Tim, Cait's son, and take off for the Black Hills. Sam follows, with the help of an Indian and a Black soldier, and they kill the bad guys and rescue Tim. Cait and Sam get married and settle in Nebraska.

Review - Two in the Field

The first book centered on early baseball, which I enjoyed more. This one was set in coal-mining towns in Pennsylvania, in Saratoga Springs and in the Black Hills, and wasn't as good. Even within the context of time travel, it seemed a bit silly, what with the ghost of Cait's first husband hovering around and Sam's many near-misses with death.
