Notes:Ellie is fat and doesn't have a boyfriend. When she's invited to a reunion at the decayed mansion of her Uncle Merlin, she hires Ben, a writer of racy spy novels, to be her boyfriend. Shortly thereafter, Merlin dies. He leaves the mansion to Ellie if, in six months, she can lose 60 pounds, Ben can write a book without smut and together they can discover the family treasure. All of this they manage to do, and fall in love in the bargain. Thanks to the help of Dorcas, who turns out to be Merlin's half-sister, and Merlin himself, who wasn't really dead but was posing as the gardener. And in spite of Sybil an insane aunt who kept trying to kill them and foil their plans.

Review - Thin Woman, The

The premise, to begin with, was fairly interesting, but the ending, with the crazy aunt and the re-emergence of Merlin, was dumb. The dialogue between Ellie and Ben when the confessed their love to each other and explained why it took them six months to get to that point was some of the worst writing I've ever read.
