Notes:The adventures and exploits of the members of a British fighter squadron in France during World War I. The commander, Major Woolley, tries to train the chivalrous-by-nature men that war is terrible and killing the other guy before he has a chance to kill you is the only way to survive. The squadron goes through training, early action and, finally, the all-out offensive to beat back a German breakthrough. Along the way, the men get drunk, chase women and cause havoc in the local towns. The book ends with Woolley getting shot down and falling to his death.

Review - Goshawk Squadron, The

Basically just an anti-war screed. The men were pretty much interchangeable except for Woolley who constantly trumpeted the horrors of war, refused to get close to his men and found his only relief in his girlfriend and his accordion.
