Notes:A history of the British frigate Hermione. In 1797, when under the command of the cruel Captain Hugh Pigot, the crew mutinied and killed most of the officers, then turned the ship over to the Spanish. About 25 of the mutineers were captured and hung over the next 10 years. The ship was recaptured by the frigate Surprise, under Captain Edward Hamilton in a daring nighttime raid on a Spanish port.

Reviews for The Black Ship

Review - Black Ship, The

I didn't think it was either a particularly interesting history or a particularly well-written book. The story was choppy, the incident brutal but unexciting and the follow-up bogged down in details.
