| Notes: | A trilogy of plays: Homecoming; The Hunted; The Haunted based on Oresteia, by Aeschylus. Ezra Mannon returns home from the Civil War. His wife, Christine, has been having an affair with Brant, a ship captain. Their daughter, Lavinia, hates her mother. Their son, Orin, is a momma's boy — he's also returning from the war. Christine and Brant conspire to give Ezra poison. Lavinia finds out and tells Orin. Orin, in a fit of jealousy, kills Brant. When Christine finds out, she commits suicide. Orin is plagues by what he's done. He tries to force Lavinia to become his mother, but when she refuses, he kills himself too. Lavinia tries to escape the ghosts but finally resigns herself to living alone in the family house forever. |
