Notes:It's after World War II. Birdy is in the mental hospital, lost in dreams of when he was a kid raising canaries and thinking he's one of his birds. His friend Al, injured in the war, is brought in to talk with him about shared experiences. At the end of the book, Birdy comes out of it enough to talk with Al, who is also a bit crazy and they plan a scheme to break out of the hospital.

Review - Birdy

When Al was remembering the stuff he and Birdy did as a kid, it was fairly interesting. When Birdy was remembering raising canaries, it was OK. But when he was pretending he was a bird, it was just stupid and the ending was pointless.
