Review - Freckles
As corny a book as I've ever read, but still I couldn't help liking and rooting for the characters, even though I knew how contrived it was all going to end.

| Notes: | Freckles was left at an orphanage as an infant, missing one arm. When he turns 20, he runs away from a cruel boss and gets a job with McLean, an Indiana lumberman who hires him to guard the Limberlost Swamp from tree poachers. Freckles comes to love the nature in the swamp. He meets Angel, a 16-year-old girl, who lives nearby, and they fall in love. She saves his life when he's captured by poachers, and he saves hers when he pushes her out of the way of a falling tree. But Freckles refuses to marry Angel because of his arm and because he thinks he's from a poor family. When Angel tracks down his relatives in Ireland and discovers he's actually the heir to a great estate, they agree to get an education and then get married. |
