Notes:The author, when she was in her late 20s, purchased three camels (and acquired a fourth when one of them gave birth) and walked across Australia from Alice Springs to near Carnarvon. She talks about camels and Aborigines, but mostly she talks about her own feelings.

Review - Tracks

This could have been a good book if it were about the country and the people and living with camels. Instead it was about how the author felt about everything. She appears to have been unhappy and hard to like, and her remedy for this was to take off by herself. Her conclusion was that she could do pretty much anything she wanted and she didn't care what anybody thought about it and anybody who disagreed with her was vermin. She didn't really seem to come to any truth. Her protestations that she resented the loss of her anonymity doesn't ring true in light of the fact that she wrote this book.
