| Notes: | The Grimm brothers published a total of 215 stories. They collected folk tales as part of a larger study of German culture. They believed that the tales were important as reflections of the popular mind. The Grimms were the first authors to maintain strict allegiance to the original tales, without rewriting them, believing their true value and strength lay in their authenticity. COMMENTS — If you don’t read all 215 fairy tales, at least read these classics: • Hansel and Grethel • Rapunzel • Cinderella • Little Red Riding Hood • The Shoemaker and the Elves • The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood • Snow-white and the Seven Dwarfs • Rumpelstiltskin • The Golden Goose |
