Notes:Subtitle: Their Epic March and the Terrifying Battle for New Guinea — The Forgotten War of the South Pacific

Early in WWII, the Japanese dug in on the north coast of New Guinea. Undertrained American troops were marched across the mountainous jungle to attack them in entrenched positions. The campaign took months and the forces on both sides were wiped out by disease, starvation and battle. McArthur, who never went anywhere near the front, demanded more casualties in the interest of his reputation.
