Review - Control of Nature, The
Kept my interest for the most part, although McPhee's disjointed narrative style is a bit hard to follow at times.

| Notes: | Three essays on man's attempts to control the force of nature. 1) Levees and control dams to keep the Mississippi River from switching course into the Atchafalaya River and bypassing New Orleans. 2) The effort to stop a lava flow from destroying a town and harbor in Iceland by pumping water onto it. 3) The fight in Los Angeles to prevent slides debris from the mountains from drowning neighborhoods in the valleys. |
