Notes:Miller's interpretation of the start of Batman's career as a crime fighter. Gotham is crime-ridden, encouraged by crooked cops. There's a new lieutenant, Jim Gordon. He is determined to do good, and this isn't appreciated. And then Batman shows up. Gordon assumes he's a criminal, but then he notices Batman helps people. In the end, the two, working separately, take down the crooked politicians and cops. At the very end, they begin working together.

Review - Batman: Year One

Miller didn't like the tongue-in-cheek Batman, but he went overboard in the other direction. There's no fun left at all. This is just dark and depressing and ugly. Batman isn't even admirable, just driven. Miller deals with the origin of Catwoman here too, as a prostitute turned thief, also not interesting or compelling.
