Review - Royal Survivor
Well-written without going into too much detail. Charles was clever but was too much a conniver and a rake to be a sympathetic character.

| Notes: | Subtitle: The Life of Charles II A brief biography of Charles II of England. When his father was put to death and England given over to Cromwell, Charles fled to France. He made one attempt to regain the throne by force which ended in defeat and flight across England in disguise. When Cromwell died, Charles was brought back and made king. He spent the rest of his life plotting to regain the power of the throne and chasing his several mistresses. At the end of his life, he converted to Catholicism and left the country to his Catholic brother James II who only took four years to mess things up to the point where he had to flee into exile. |
