Notes:With the world on the brink of nuclear war, somebody is targeting costumed super heroes. The remaining ones investigate and, finally, discover that one of them, Ozymandias, the smartest man in the world, instigates has exploded a psychic bomb that kills half the population of the world. He makes it look like an alien invasion and the nations call off the war and unite. The other heroes realize that Ozymandias' plan has succeeded, although they couldn't have done it. Except Rorschach. He intends to report it so the others kill him. Other stories — the characters origins, a pirate comic book, the lives of various inhabitants of New York — are all woven throughout to paint a picture of a world gone mad.

Brilliant. Can't say I enjoyed it, but I appreciated the way all the stories fit together. The end, with the psychic bomb disguised as a giant alien squid, was a bit over-the-top, but otherwise it was compelling.
