Notes:Subtitle: The Attack on Cantigny, America's First Battle of World War I

Detailed history of the first attack on German lines by American troops in WWI. On May 28, 1918, and for three days after, 1st Division troops took and held the town of Cantigny. It wasn't a huge battle—3,500 troops were involved and about a third of them were casualties (10% killed)—but it gave the American Army credibility with the Allies and within the Army itself.

Review - First Over There

The book was well-written. The maps were clear. The story-line was easy to follow. But still somehow the book managed to be a little boring. I think the author's insistence on giving the personal information on each soldier at the point in the battle where he died or was injured, slowed things down. The narrative kept switching from the big picture to some kid from Kenosha or Brooklyn who hadn't been mentioned before and wouldn't be mentioned again.
