Wolff's sentences are so clunky that I would have needed to read all of them twice to figure out what they said — if he had given me any reason to think the effort would have been worthwhile. He actually managed to make the Maine coast sound boring. And then, at the end, worried perhaps that he didn't sound liberal enough, he added a final couple pages just to say more liberal stuff.
