Notes:Subtitle: The History of the SAS, Britain's Secret Special Forces that Sabotaged the Nazis and Changed the Nature of War

The SAS began as a small, independent British unit in North Africa, tasked with attacking German airfields to prevent attacks on Malta and British forces in Egypt. It's role expanded, in Africa, Italy, and France/Germany to roaming behind enemy lines attacking German forces and causing havoc wherever and whenever opportunity arose. The soldiers were often men who wouldn't have survived in the traditional command structure of the regular army.

Review - Rogue Heroes

The first part of the book, when the SAS was small enough that I could keep pretty good track of the men and the missions, was really good. As things expanded, it got less interesting—just a long string of barely-connected missions often led by men who just entered the story. Still, overall, I'm glad I read it.
